ROSS Launches Web and Intranet Server Systems
AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing its mission of providing the most affordable performance to SPARC(TM) users worldwide, Ross Technology Inc today announced immediate availability of its hyperSTATION(TM) Web Server systems and SPARCplug(TM) PC Intranet systems. These desktop servers incorporate the company's hyperSPARC(TM) microprocessors, are compatible with both SunOS(R) and the Solaris(R) operating systems, and maintain full Sun/SPARC compatibility.
The hyperSTATION Web server systems, configured with a single 200 MHz hyperSPARC CPU or a single 125 MHz hyperSPARC CPU, have list prices of $23,950 and $14,650, respectively. The full range of Netscape(TM) Internet server software, the SuiteSpot(TM) bundle for high-performance Intranet and Internet servers, is included with the systems. By contrast, the list price for a similarly-equipped single 200 MHz UltraSPARC(TM)-based Netra i2/1200 Web server system from Sun Microsystems is $33,090, including a separate cost for the SuiteSpot bundle.

hyperSTATION Web Servers
The hyperSTATION Web server Model RTHS30-WEB is configured with a single 200 MHz hyperSPARC CPU, 256 MB of RAM, 7200 RPM 4 GB data drive, 7200 RPM 2 GB OS/application drive, 100Base-T Ethernet, 6X CD-ROM, Solaris 2.5 Workgroup operating system and the complete Netscape SuiteSpot Internet Server Software bundle. It is available at an MSRP of $18,995.
The Netscape SuiteSpot Internet Server Software bundle includes Netscape Enterprise Server(TM), Netscape Catalog Server(TM), Netscape Proxy Server(TM), Netscape Mail Server(TM) and Netscape News Server(TM).
The hyperSTATION Web server Model RTHS20-WEB is configured with a single 125 MHz hyperSPARC CPU, 64 MB of RAM, 7200 RPM 2 GB data drive, 10Base-T Ethernet, 6X CD-ROM, Solaris 2.5 Workgroup operating system and the complete Netscape SuiteSpot Internet Server Software bundle. It is available at an MSRP of $11,725.
SPARCplug PC Intranet Server
ROSS is the first company to combine the power of SPARC-based Solaris UNIX with the user-friendly features of Pentium Pro-based Microsoft Windows(TM) both running in a single machine, allowing cut-and-paste operations between the two systems. The SPARCplug workstation is a complete SS-20-class workstation/server that fits into the full-height drive bay of a Dell Optiplex PC, sharing the same monitor, keyboard and mouse, and communicating between the two systems via standard Ethernet. Using Hummingbird's eXceed 5 and Maestro NFS for file sharing, the SPARCplug appears as separate windows on the PC screen, allowing for intuitive and seamless cross-platform functionality.
The SPARCplug PC systems are configured with a single or dual 100 MHz or 125 MHz processor or a single 150 MHz hyperSPARC CPU, SCSI 2 serial interface, 10Base-T Ethernet, Solaris 1.x or 2.x operating system, 8-bit audio, FDD interface, 2 RS-232 or RS-423 peripheral ports, 64 MB DRAM, lGB hard drive and the Netscape FastTrack server software. A SPARCplug PC system combining a 100 MHz SPARCplug and a 200 MHz Pentium Pro PC have an MSRP of $6,619.
Compatibility Overview
The hyperSTATION Web Server and SPARCplug PC systems, like all ROSS products, maintain absolute compliance with SPARC standards, including SPARC SCD, SPARC Version 8 Architecture, and Level 2 (multiprocessing) MBus. In addition, the Solaris 1.1.2 (SunOS 4.1.4), 2.3, 2.4 and the Solaris 2.5 operating systems are all fully qualified on hyperSPARC and supported directly by SunSoft(R).
