*OT* >> I love America, it's the best place in the world, but we are provincial dolts! Jill, Americans have a tendency to seek out our faults and criticize ourselves harshly. I've travelled the world on business and lived abroad as an ex-pat, and never seen another culture exhibit this trait. We have a unique culture based on an embarrassment of riches, a multi-racial/cultural composition, and the opportunity for upward mobility based on talent rather than birth dictated position. We sacrifice our children to defend the freedom of others around the world. We take in immigrants and make them our own. IMO, this is the most gracious and generous nation that has ever existed; our big weakness is that we look at the thin veneer of culture that other nations flaunt and deem ourselves to be inferior. This burst of patriotism is made in response to several posts I've seen, and not aimed specifically at you, Jill. Frank
