Shoot the tech support an email if you want, but
you risk shooting yourself in the long metatarsals
if you plug a strange IDE drive in without dismounting
the file system on the previous drive somehow (dismount
means disconnect from the file system on it). Don't
ask me how. Maybe there's a way, but I don't know it.

Think of what that drive cache means.
Think you're new drive will feel when it receives
the sectors written out that were cached from the
old drive. Think how you will feel when you find
out how your drive feels.

I believe the common thread running through all this
is think ... <ggg>.
