If we are going in there we ought to be doing it with overwhelming force, assets and numbers and we should expect that we will incur some losses. If the stakes are not high enough to justify a full scale effort and some casualties, then we ought not to be there in the first place.

Exactly right. It's amazing how quickly the lessons of history are forgotten. Out with the "Powell Doctrine", in with the "Clinton Doctrine": when in doubt, launch some cruise missiles and hope for the best; or, speak loudly and carry a small stick.
