Brian. Could you elaborate on your statement of the FDM machine/software requiring a person to spend time setting up the support structures and slicing the part. It is my understanding that their current FDM machine/software performs these tasks automatically. I would appreciate you educating me on this since I have not been able to use an FDM machine first hand.

Also, I am aware that Stratasys' support material is a much more brittle material than ABS and nylon and snaps away somewhat cleanly but may require some filing. I agree that removal of support materials in smaller areas could be problematic. Sanders Prototype modeler uses a soluble wax compound support material that melts at 54-76 degress celcius. The part is placed in vat to disolve the support material. Perhaps Stratasys will consider such an approach if customer feedback reveals that their current break away support method has major shortcomings.

The more I discuss some of the shortcomings of their existing products, the more I see where their R&D money needs to be targeted. In retrospect the metal modeler I envisioned was too much grandiose thinking.

Regards,
David
