IBM always sold Cyrix designed chips under the IBM label, so if they were to purchase Cyrix from NSM, I doubt that they would keep the name alive. I would be surprised if IBM does purchase Cyrix, though, because over the years they have had plenty of opportunities and have passed on them. At one point IBM used to design their own x86 CPUs in house, and closed the operation. As I recall the designer of the IDTI Winchip used to be the master designer for IBM. Considering the huge profits that AMD and NSM are making in the CPU business, why would IBM want back in it?
