Got it-->>APR 17 1999 Creative has nothing to fear By WILLIAM CHOONG INTEL Corp -- once identified by homegrown success story Creative Technology as its greatest threat -- says companies like Creative have no grounds to fret over its successive generation of computer chips. In February, Intel had introduced its Pentium III generation of multimedia-enhanced microprocessors. This raised fears, yet again, that Creative's bread-and-butter sound card business would be affected. "Every time we do something with our microprocessors, we are going to put somebody out of business. That's usually forecast," noted chief executive officer Craig Barrett. On the other hand, companies like Creative and suppliers of other "add-on" cards just add more capability to their products, he said. Hence, Intel's processors and peripherals like Creative's sound cards and other graphics cards would always co-exist. "The base processors have always been able to do some graphics, animation, audio and video capabilities...but with add-on cards, you can do even more." In August 1997 -- several months after Intel introduced its older Pentium II chips -- Creative founder Sim Wong Hoo had singled out the world's biggest chip maker as their biggest threat.
