Most people do not understand that most modern holidays that Christians are celebrating are based on ancient pagan holidays. Nor do they know the history of how the pagan religions were vilified and the pagan deities were translated into the the evil representatives of Christianity.

Most people think that witches have magical powers and that they worship the Christian devil rather than a polytheistic religion that held mother earth in reverence and understood the cycles of life. An effective campaign really.

I do not follow any particular religous belief, but I do find the history interesting and I try not to disrespect anyone's beliefs.

In other words, you are right.
