hio: I think EP's difficulty with the English language is illustrated by the difference between the way he and Rose answered the same question last week in separate interviews.

The question was how COMPAQ's servers differ from IBM's or HWP's.

Rose said simply, directly and clearly that IBM's were designed for its own proprietary standards, whereas COMPAQ was designed to meet all standards - it was the customer's choice.

EP said, in very convoluted English, and using abstract passive rather than active concrete words, that although COMPAQ may not have a clearly ennunciated message on the subject - and other's may have gained mind share - COMPAQ was the de facto leader by a long way, due to its ownership of the Alpha and Himalaya range acquired with the DEC and Tandem acquisitions.
