When a satellite's lifetime is quoted, what is usually being reffered to is the amount of fuel on board with respect to its expected future consumption of that fuel.

Mr. A- Thanks for the coverage.

But, wouldn't it also be prudent for a company launching a new type of service (a constellation of intercommunicating LEO sats hasn't been done before on this scale) to be extremely conservative in the claims it makes for replacement frequency for its assets? Particularly as the risk of a lower reliability is higher for new technology. At the same time, a company launching a technically less sophisticated competing service (or more traditional), with fewer risks, could be less conservative.

So, do we know that Iridium sats launch with 5 years worth of fuel? (This design parameter could be unlinked to the cautionary notes in an SEC filing..which we hope are more cautionary.) Do we know the consumption rates for the sats that have been in orbit for a year or more? Is there a way to find these things out?

Thanks-

Dragonfly
