You just don't get it. Apple now has NO computers with a standard 1.44 floppy drive. And nothing has been substituted for it. Clearly the concept of standard removable storage is going the way of an add-on concept. Apple has shown the way, and now PC makers are following. Witness eMachines-- that has $299 Wintel computer with no floppy. Expect others to start dropping the floppy and replace it with...NOTHING.

Removable magnetic drives were needed at one time. They aren't anymore now that software is distributed on CD. And Intenet tranfers are also really cool. I didn't think so until I got ADSL the other week. I downloaded the 25MB Star Wars trailer from www.apple.com in under 3 minutes. Kick butt. ADSL and Cable Modems may be a lot bigger than what we realize.

Removable drives are nice to have, but in this age of 13 Gig Hard Drives selling for under $200 for the average computer user, they're just not necessary.
