<<No doubt, with people like Milosevic, Hussain, Khadafi, Yeltsin, Adid Jr., Zhemin, and Habib running the nations of about 2/3 of the people of the world, the next century is sure to be only worse than this one.>>
In the next century we may well look back and pine for Mr. Yeltsin. His tenure in office is up next year I believe, or 2001. Who comes after Yeltsin in country still dominated by Communists and Nationalists? The CIS security pact is falling apart, Georgia and other former Soviet republics are breaking away... and courting NATO. All this at a time when Russia is seeking to reassert herself.
Iranian military strength is growing, Iranian influence is spreading as far as Greece. Iranian navy and submarine units are capable of blocking the Straits of Hormuz. India, a nuclear power with a formiddable conventional force, is strengthening its navy and is capable of blocking oil in the Indian Ocean. Indonesia also controls a vital Asian oil channel. These are countries that are not exactly high on America. All of these countries are also smack dab in the middle of near-hot regional power struggles.
China is still watering at the mouth over Taiwan. Chinese-Indian relations arent getting any better. Watch the pressure mount as China tries to keep up its 9% growth rate in the face of American economic dominance.
Its going to be an interesting 21st century to say the least. |
