Thanks guys for your replies about Netscape. Since I've been told I am not a "dumb old broad from Kentucky", I won't say that anymore. Only been in KY for give years, retired here from IL, also lived in WI and MN, MI. Took 55 years to get me to warmer weather and you think I am not "dumb." Well, okay.
Now, here is where I really need help. I want to have a computer built for me because I have no use for all the preloaded garbage in the computers at Circuit City, OfficeMax, Office Depot. I only want to trade stocks, read SI (eventually with Browsemaster I hope), do email and occasional searches for subjects that interest me. Four grown kids, none are interested in computers, live 900 miles away. I just don't need all the crap they put in computers on the shelf.
The only things I know that I do want are 17" monitor and Microsoft Office 97 because that is what I used when I worked. And I'm not paying $439-499 retail for it. I want Pentium II or III, speed, and I just don't know about the other things. I want to have two computers going at the same time, so later, if I get smarter I can get Level II or Medved. I want to buy enough computer now so it will last for a while. So maybe I have to purchase things now that I wouldn't use right away. Like the Circuit City salesman told me, CD roms would be obsolete in two years and it would all be digital.
So would you help me by explaining in terms I can understand, what I should get built into my computer? There are two computer builders around here, neither has worked on a system for trading stocks. I sure would appreciate any advise you could give me. Remember, I have two ISPs from Hell to choose from. And one of the computer builders calls our rural phone company "Hooterville Telephone & Telegraph." He recommends an external modem for the best internet speed for where we live. Thanks.
