Steinman,
Maybe the excerpts below will help in how this could benefit GMGC. For those that are new to GMGC, Serengeti is now known as Portico.
The new wave will be a VUI with the internet. Any and all internet companies are doing there best to get a leg up on their competitors. The first internet company that is able to have customers access the internet over the phone and synchronize information will most likely win (IMVHO). There have been rumors about GMGC and Netscape, Excite, AOL, etc. etc. With Starfish Software's Technology being utilized by Excite and GMGC, there is a tendency to believe that there is a concerted effort to standardize the internet and VUI (or voice recognition). With GMGC in the middle of this standardization, it would lead one to believe that GMGC would benefit from any partnership with a company such as Starfish to partner with a company such as Excite.
If you want a technical explanation, Stephen Wall is very competent in this field.
Hope this helps a little. Unfortunately, I am not a techno-weenie:)
Take care, Kurt
generalmagic.com Starfish Software's technology provides Portico with business information management capabilities (calendar, to-do list, contact management). Additionally, it will allow synchronization with that information from the Web, from desktop PCs, and from Palm Pilot andWindows CE-based devices.
generalmagic.com "Starfish adds value to General Magic's service in two ways," said Philippe Kahn, chairman and co-founder of Starfish. "First, it will give Serengeti a framework for delivering and handling business information. Second, it will allow interaction with that information from multiple devices, including PalmPilot and Windows CE-based machines, as well as desktop PCs." |
