I don't know much about these sorts of things, but intuitively this is not surprising. Microsoft has over time been increasing it's support for "alternative" CPU's. If true, this development certainly doesn't appear to hurt the K7.

I was just reading something very interesting in the ol' AMD Winhec presentation. Apparently it looks as though Microsoft is planning on improving their compiler for alternative CPUs. This would really signal a change in things. A lot of Intel's performance gains come form the fact that every major compiler optimizes specifically for the Intel pipelines and in so doign penalizes other CPUs. Imagine code tuned for a K7.. cool..
