Southern California Edison Purchases TTC's Centralized Test System
TTC Systems and Software Solution Will Support SCEnet Remote Circuit Testing
GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1999-- TTC today announced the sale of centralized test management systems and software to Southern California Edison (SCE), the nation's second largest investor-owned electric utility.
Under terms of the sale, valued at nearly $1 million, TTC will provide SCE with CENTEST remote test units and NetAnalyst test OSS software for SCE sites across southern California.
The TTC test equipment and software will perform DS0 and DS1 testing on 18 DACS across the SCE network as the utility deploys SCEnet, a fiber-based SONET infrastructure that is used to support Edison's electrical grid network. Currently, SCE maintains 1,500 miles of optical fiber and 246 SONET nodes operating at OC-3, OC-12 and OC-48 rates.
SCE's service territory is 50,000 square miles within southern California.
''SCE expects to realize measurable benefits from the CENTEST 650 and NetAnalyst offerings as the SCEnet deployment progresses,'' said Leo Corona, SCE senior communication engineer. ''The systems approach promises to save SCE technicians time and effort as they test our DS0 and DS1 circuits.''
''TTC is pleased to accept the challenge of applying our systems solution to benefit SCE's network roll out,'' said Jim Shea, TTC director of marketing, Systems and Software Group. ''SCEnet represents the state of the art for process improvement in electric utilities.''
TTC's system solution for network testing includes:
CENTEST 650 - a remotely deployable, centralized test unit that allows communications service providers to troubleshoot wide area networks from one location. The centralized nature of the CENTEST 650 reduces costly dispatches, streamlines test processes and ensures network reliability.
NetAnalyst - test OSS software that manages the CENTEST 650 and TTC portable test devices on one software test platform, enabling intrusive and non-intrusive testing through a simple point-and-click graphical user interface. NetAnalyst software automatically learns the TTC test resources on the network and displays the appropriate test-head-specific options to the user. The software is designed with an open, scaleable architecture and is TMN based.
Southern California Edison is one of the nation's largest electric utilities, serving more than 11 million people in a 50,000-square-mile area within central, coastal and Southern California.
