It just occured to me how infinitely more complex the issue of receiving broadcast entertainment over the internet is if you throw in "open access" into the mix.
Would AOL be willing to put limits on broadcast video in order to save the primary TV business of the MSO whos bandwidth it has stolen by government mandate? Would Mindspring? Earthlink? etc, etc.
Would the government have to regulate broadcast video over the internet lines as well or doom the MSO's to the sole task of stringing cable for others use?
As far as I'm concerned the entire point of @home as a cable consortium is to save the cable business from the eventual collapse of the broadcast TV regime when it gets swallowed into the internet. CNN will *be* cnn.com, its a guarantee. Its only the transition from here to there I cant see, but I see now that "open access" would make the transition that many steps harder.
