Greg,

Well, I think Dataquest if full of sh*t. It seems like every
now and then someone will come up with a reason why PC's are
useful and cheap. They are then compared w/thin client technology
on a price/performance basis without quoting any cost-of-ownership
figures.

Here they go again....
Dataquest sees the $1,000 PC as beating out the NC because of the
price. What price? $1,000?? When you go to buy a car do you
buy the out-the-door price or do you consider other costs as well:
insurance, gas mileage, rate-of-repair etc...??

Why doesn't Dataquest go into the cost of ownership??? As long
as data stays local you are going to have bigger admin costs.

IBM published a study showing costs between the PC & NC to be lower
for the NC by $5,000 per year/per unit. For a large company with
15,000 PC's that's $75 million per year!!!!

cheers,

cherylw
