To all, there was an earnings warning... Back on Dec. 16, the company DID announce that they anticipated lower sales and a probable loss. Granted, what they reported was far worse than they had warned about, but they did give warning anyway. The actual earnings report was a mess. Part of the rationale for expensing the merger the way they did was no doubt because they wanted (or needed) to maintain the appearance of balance sheet strength, and this will keep goodwill mostly off of the books. The conference call was as evasive as one would expect for a company that knows they are in some trouble.
