I was talking to an audio engineer last week, who also plays music. He is quite LIVID that the internet is adopting the same audio compression to allow music to be downloaded, that is currently also being used in MiniDisc recorders. Therefore, he says, it is possible to download music DIRECTLY to a minidisc recorder, just by plugging the MD recorder into your computer. This is the same compression that all the engineers >hated< when the minidisc was first introduced, and that unanimous opinion has slowed down the acceptance of MD recorders. . (I don't agree. I have an MD recorder, and I think they sound great.).
He is primarily upset, because it will allow any consumer "jerk" to download music for free. I didn't understand all his arguments, but he was obviously upset at this development.
