A theory on the decline - comments appreciated.
Im the new kid and I had a tax time thought that I think may have had an effect on the recent decline. I would appreciate other thoughts. I had the idea that next year I would 1) Sell decliners to offset gains that would require gains tax. If I would do this ( I don't even know what I'm doing yet ) then would others do this?? Would they even encourage a loss at this time to offset gains knowing that they could buy back at the low having provided the necessary loss and setting up the future gain. 2) Based on how well I do this year ( I appreciate all the helpful comments on this thread and others - all are welcome ) I may have to sell some good holdings just to keep Sam happy. Thoughts from a true novice who is long on AOL.
