Stock should be up. How much is anyone's guess. I predict 2 bucks up.
It's good that the press release was relatively positive, since it didn't bad-mouth Pfeiffer after all the great stuff he did from 1991 to 1996. It's only in the past 2 years that things have become questionable at CPQ.
This will allow, assuming a good CEO and CFO are hired, credibility to be restored to CPQ's name as all the channel stuffing, selling receivables, late and leaked preannouncements to be considered a thing of a previous mgmt.
Once a new CFO and CEO are named, new earnings estimates are made, some further restructurings announced (as new mgmt will want to start clean), and CPQ gets its message together (to Wall Street) and to its customers, gets its Web message clear, then eventually we could return to the 40+ range (maybe in 2000). With the current mgmt, that would be almost impossible as no one would believe any EPS or guidance. |
