rudedog, fair enough however I am in the camp that believes low-end strategy should be applied to high end products to be successful. For example I think Dell will eclipse Sun for that very reason, as the midrange servers are commoditized and Dell's mfg techniques exclipse Sun. Thats just my opinion... so if I had a choice of who I wanted to run cpq and I was a major shareholder I would pick an ex-Dell person over say, an ex-HP person. I just feel the marketing and mfg techniques at the low end are superior - Sun won against its competitors (SGI etc) NOT against Dell or Cpq.

Besides, you are stating what Pheiffer's vision was. A new guy might veer in a different direction - whats wrong with that as long as they are successful. I think the important thing is a clear vision and proven execution. Fwiw I hope it isn't the SGI guy because I don't think hes done much with SGI. (another former HPer)
