It looks to me that CPU speed won't matter much in the future. I agree with what IBM CEO said: "PC era is over". The reason I invest with NSM is not because I expect NSM will beat INTEL by faster Mhz. NSM will never achieve this! Base on my understanding what Brian Halla put together is a combination of both digital and analog power, which used to put together an integrated processor. "System in a chip" By applying "Gorilla Game" theory, we can obviously see INTEL is a Gorilla, AMD is a monkey. If AMD keeps being a follower of INTEL, it will never beat Intel. Every time AMD come up with something, Intel always have the power to kill it. So what is different about NSM? NSM is trying hard to be a Chimp, then someday they might have opportunities to replace Gorilla if they catch the future technology in a correct direction. That is why NSM bought Mediamatics, a MPEG II standard leader.
Who will buy Pentium III? Definitely, I won't! I would rather using the money to buy more RAM. For most people Pentium II is already over-kill. 80% of CPU resource is wasted nowadays. With "PC era is over", the CPU speed game is over too. What matters now is network bandwidth, and applications such as multimedia. IMHO, It looks meaningless to me to argue the CPU speed now.
What bothers me now is if NSM sells Cyrix to IBM, NSM will lost its digital power. For long term it is going to have negative effect. |
