I had an ATI All-in-Wonder Rage Pro with an older box and although the TV-tuner was neat, the card itself wasn't worth the dollars involved (IMO). The problem with the separate cards is that it takes one more slot away. If Matrox does have a solution, by all means go with them. There's nothing that prevents you from using two card manufacturers, but there's no doubt that they do work better together when they're both from the same company.
I'm thinking I may go with a multi-monitor card for trading with some 19's and get a more maxed out card to run a 21" monitor for multimedia. I'll try to cram everything into a single box, but down the road may have to split it into separate boxes if I want scsi or something else exotic.
OTOH, if I really go for the gusto, my dream (sorry, wrong thread) would be to get the Tyan Thunder dual board w/onboard LAN, SCSI, and sound; 6 pci slots, 1 agp, 1 isa. MSI is supposed to come out soon with a socket 370 to slot 1 converter that has a jumper that allows celerons to operate in dual mode and also a jumper for 100MHz FSB. Intel, next year, is supposed to have celerons with 100MHz FSB default, and 256 on-die cache. This system could carry me a ways.
Couldn't really rate the Nokia's since I haven't worked with them enough, but there are definitely some monitors out there that are big-time overpriced (even if they are good)...I wouldn't want to mention any names like Sony or anything though. :) The Mitsubishi Diamondtrons are nice too.
I didn't realize you can get the Viewsonics for less than the Nokia's. Now I have to go read some reviews. Or maybe I'll just buy something -- research is so time-consuming...
Thanks for the info, wily
