Rude- I know you have posted similiar thoughts along this line, but just to complete your post to William Michaels: Pfeiffer/Mason's biggest faux pas, and what I firmly believe ultimately cost them their jobs was not the difficulty of the DEC merger or not getting the cost structure in line quick enough (very important and, I would say, job threatening)...

What killed them was the debacle of last year (Pfeiffer coming out and saying "all OK" and then week/ten days later warning), AND THEN this year's debacle..The "its the industry's fault" routine, and the amateurish handling of the situation to Wall Street before, during, and after...Credibility was totally lost after the latest incidence(s)

The coverup killed 'em...

For Compaq's sake, I'm glad to see Rosen make the comments that he has "Difficulties were Compaq's fault"...first step is restoring credibility...

Assuming Compaq hires an equally or more competent management team that Pfeiffer/Rosen, they made the right move by forcing their resignations..the cloud would have remained for quite some time (among investors) concerning Compaq...
