Steven, I want to talk about music instead. After E brought up the topic of rape I felt compelled to listen to some of the most beautiful music written for women. I don't know why, but I had the compulsion to listen to the duet in Lakme, then the Bell song; then I listened to the Barcarole from Tales of Hoffman. Then the flower duet from Butterfly. Somehow I expected the purity of the music to wash the grime away.

I know it is odd. Like putting my head in the sand. But the mindless violence that people do to one another takes a severe toll on me. I will play a recording of Renee Fleming singing Mozart, and then another with Cicilia Bartoli singing.

I simply need to hear women sing songs of innocence to me. Somehow the singing reassures me that there are still decent, sensitive people in this world.
