Sonny,

What do you think of the resignation of Pfeiffer and Mason? I had indicated earlier to you my admiration of Compaq as a company but my reservations concerning Pfeiffer and Mason. It looks like those two might have hurt the company and there will be some period of recovery. I am not surprised that others might have thought the same way but I am surprised and pleased at the way Ben Rosen took charge once again at a time of crisis for CPQ.

One thing Rosen mentioned was the fact that their shortfall this quarter ought to be blamed on the company, for the most part, unlike what Pfeiffer said earlier. I think that this will provide a little reassurance to investors in the tech sector and give a lift to Intel, Dell, HP and Gateway in the short term. It appears, with this final contradiction of what Pfeiffer said, that Rosen is distancing the company from Pfeiffer and trying to build up credibility with the investment community again. Bravo! When this shakes out, I think it would be a good time to look into buying CPQ shares for what I think will be the inevitable growth path back.
