Yes. Mencken was a spectacularly astute cynic. But a grumph about collective stupidity is pretty mellow compared to the soldier business. You see, it denies me the ability to view forcible rape as an aberration, a sign or consequence of systemic moral failure.
I won't go as far as nihil. I do not see contest in all sex. But the continuum is there; perhaps it is more subliminal for me and nihil is just that much more attuned to it.
