michael: As the Rosen comments dribble out, it sounds better. He stresses that it was not related to one event and stresses that Mason going is unrelated. It was EP who was asked to resign. But the headlines will hurt and the obvious questions and knee-jerk reactions will be there. Look at the DELLHEADS for the less charitable view.

I liked his analogy about having a great football team full of potential but no execution. I can hardly believe I'm hearing such frankness from COMPAQ. All Rosen's spins are positive even while he is being candid.

The question that will probably prevent it bouncing and cause it to drop would be the one about earnings. Is the 15 cents safe?

But here's a thought.

Since Rosen wants to bring in a new era, would he really fail to mention poorer results than the 15 cents at this time: would he really explain the resignations the way he did, and then allow COMPAQ to deliver another body blow on Tuesday? His own credibility would not last long if he did.
