I was over to see my philosopher pal Bob last night, so I quizzed him on existentialism to see if I was anywhere close to the mark. He and his wife recently wrote a paper on it, so he's supposed to know something about it, but you never know....

He had me look it up in his Oxford dictionary of philosophy, and the definition was as clear as mud. It's like nailing jello to the wall. And "phenomenology" was even worse. So basically, if you want to be able to write just about anything, no matter how incoherent, just claim to be an existential phenomenologist. No one will ever be able to prove otherwise. Unless what you write makes sense, at which point you will have blown your cover....
