Liked the comments about belts, hoses, etc. cars; hadn't thought of that.

You maybe have the same feeling I do: Whenever I go into the hardware store (grocery store, etc.) I think: "I better have one of those, too!" -- an idea that's completely (kinda) contrary to your "getting rid of the crap" idea.

Maybe the idea is just rotating from one "set of things" to another. If I do, and if nothing happens, I suspect that I'll like many of "the new/y2k things" better. This is an interesting exercise is seeing how much stupid wasteful junk we surround ourselves with.
