I think that DELL's vision is superior to CPQ's
I don't think DELL has a vision, at least not one that has been shared publicly. They have a pervasive philosophy and culture which has created one of the most dynamic and successful companies ever, but don't confuse that with a vision. They have perfected a focus on internal process and cash management which is also almost revolutionary in its impact. Business school studies will be written about that aspect of the saga for years to come. But that's not a vision either.

DELL is so strong tactically that it almost doesn't matter that they have little strategy, they can count on the ability to scramble and win. But I have never seen anything remotely like a vision articulated for or by DELL, and their strategy is the kind of 18 month focus that a company focused on execution would favor.
