I kind of had that experience once, trying to learn philosophy from a dictionary. The definitions were kind of circular. I think if you actually read the books, it would be clearer. Not that I do, you understand.
I have Kant's "Critique of Pure Reason" on my shelf, I am going to read it someday. So far, I've been through blizzards, and very poor health, and I've read all of two chapters. I did read more of "Moby Dick," finally, enough to know that it's not my fault I haven't finished it, it's just not a good book. Similarly "War and Peace."
Plutarch, on the other hand, I recommend very highly. More than any other philosopher. Even Aristotle, whose "Rhetoric" I like, and recommend for lawyers, but since you hate lawyers you wouldn't like it.
Hey, there is a big ad in the paper for lawyers for the Postal Service. I may apply, wouldn't that be ironic? |
