Blue, my father was like that, too, at times. Although he made an exception for me, the only female cub of the litter. Of course, if he had been a Roman, he might have exposed me to die for that very reason. Reminds me of an oft-cited letter, written by a Roman merchant to his pregnant wife. First he entertains her with some chit-chat about his travels (he is on a business trip), and then he gives her some advice about what to do if she should have the baby before he returns:

If it is a boy, keep it. If it is a girl, expose it.
