''Uncovering Clinton'' sets out in lucid, largely chronological fashion how he got his stories. He forcefully defends his behavior, which has come under attack from other journalists and Clinton partisans. It is hard to render an absolute verdict on the propriety of his actions based just on his book, for it decidedly presents one (admittedly one unusually knowledgeable) person's version of reality. But Isikoff makes a plausible case -- perhaps the best case that could be made -- for continuing to pursue a story that could possibly have brought down a President. At times, as he acknowledges, sometimes directly, sometimes opaquely, Isikoff became too immersed in his story.
