Network Magazine Announces Annual Product of the Year Awards
SAN FRANCISCO, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Network Magazine, the only monthly magazine to cover computer networks, today announced the winners of its 12th annual Product of the Year Awards.
As one of the longest running independent product awards in the networking/IT field, Network Magazine's Product of the Year Awards are given to those products that according to Editor-in-Chief, Steve Steinke, "matter most to the readers -- the people who manage, administer and support enterprise networks."
With no unsolicited input from vendors, the selection process is internal and takes over three months to complete. The various editors of the magazine were asked to look within their realms of expertise and come up with products "that stand out from the surrounding landscape," says Steinke. "These choices were then opened up for the group to scrutinize."
The number and types of categories have evolved over the years to keep up with changing technology. This is probably best exemplified this year by the expanded number of security awards, which is a result of the network becoming so vital to the running of the enterprise: Firewall; Intrusion Monitoring; Proxy Server; Public Key Infrastructure; Authentication; Anti-Virus; and VPN.
To qualify, Product of the Year winners had to ship during calendar year 1998. Network Magazines' product coverage is designed to "help network managers be successful by not only delivering information about network technology, product offerings and the competitive environment, but also by paying constant attention to the business context that justifies any investment in network infrastructure."
Award winners will be featured in the May issue of Network Magazine, which goes out to over 204,000 network professionals. The awards themselves will be given out May 12th during Networld + Interop, at a reception at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
