MicroNet to Integrate Ancor Fibre Channel SAN Switches for Video and Prepress Customers

MINNEAPOLIS, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ancor Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ANCR) today announced an OEM agreement with MicroNet Technology Inc., a leading supplier of high-performance RAID disk arrays. Under the agreement, MicroNet plans to include Ancor's GigWorks MKII Fibre Channel switches in its FibreFlex storage area network (SAN) solution, dramatically boosting the performance of its offering for customers in the video and pre-press industries.

2.MicroNet Debuts GenesisONE FC; A Fibre Channel Native Disk Array at NAB

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 1999--MicroNet Technology, Inc., a leading innovator in storage technology, today announces that its GenesisONE FC array will be available as a pure Fibre Channel system.

The GenesisONE FC system gives users true data transfer speeds of up to 100MB/sec, and 200MB/sec point-to-point throughput in a full duplex configuration. Additional benefits include increased cable lengths and the ability to attach up to 126 devices on a single loop. The GenesisONE FC unit is a platform and OS-independent system that is easy to install and manage, and can support striping and mirroring (RAID 0/1) with RAID software support. The system can be configured with seven Fibre Channel drives with 9, 18 or 36GB capacities for up to 250 GB per system. The GenesisONE FC system incorporates a flexible design that supports configurations that are scalable to terabytes. The GenesisONE FC system will begin shipping mid-June, and will be available from qualified MicroNet resellers and VARs.

The GenesisONE FC array is a high-performance system, optimized for digital content creation, non-linear editing and post production. Eliminating common bottleneck issues, the GenesisONE FC system has a maximum bandwidth of 200MB/sec in a dual loop FC-AL configuration or 100MB/sec in a single loop environment. The 10,000-meter maximum cable length ensures that any user can connect seamlessly and efficiently to the array and still benefit from the increased bandwidth. With its rugged and attractive industrial design, and ability to be configured as a rack mount or tower, the system is an ideal addition to any digital content creation facility.

Based on MicroNet's award-winning DataDock family, the GenesisONE FC disk array is completely scalable to meet varying user needs. The GenesisONE FC system features MicroNet's unique drive latching function and a temperature monitoring system to ensure that the system stays within user defined parameters. As a platform and OS-independent system, the GenesisONE FC disk array is compatible with leading operating systems including Mac OS, Windows NT, UNIX, Linux, Solaris and Sun. Pricing for the GenesisONE FC system will be announced prior to shipment.

In related news, MicroNet's GenesisONE system will be on display at Ampex Data Systems' booth, #L10634. Ampex Data Systems Corporation, another wholly-owned subsidiary of Ampex Corporation, is one of the world's leading providers of technologies for the acquisition, storage and processing of visual information.

MicroNet's FibreFlex workgroup SAN solution is based on its powerful Genesis Fibre Channel-ready RAID system and Ancor's scalable MKII switches. Available today, it also incorporates ATTO Technology's dual FibreBridge, enabling users to move data at Fibre Channel speeds.

Said Robert Faulkner, MicroNet's general manager, "We chose Ancor's switches because we wanted to deliver the highest-performing, easiest-to- install switched SAN solution. With the lowest latency in the industry and self-configuring ports, Ancor's MKII switches fit the bill."

"MicroNet's years of experience and its focus on quality and service enable the company to quickly deliver a robust SAN solution to solve the storage crunch of video and pre-press customers," said Cal Nelson, Ancor's president. "Switched SANs in these industries are going mainstream, and that's great news for anyone managing terabytes of data."
