Hi Steve,

WaveSpan operates in the unlicensed 5.725GHz band, while
WavePath uses the MMDS spectrum(2.500 to 2.686GHz) that is
shared with Instructional Television Field Services(ITFS) users.
The reference to UCSF indicates ITFS channels are being used.

People's Choice TV used to convert ITFS channels from analog to
digital (four to one), and get the use of some channels in return.

For example, ASU might have four analog channels in Phoenix,
which could be sixteen if MPEG compression is used, so Speed-something
converts them over to digital in return for the use of two analog
channels for ten years. ASU gets eight digital channels, and Speed
vision? gets 12 MHz in the MMDS band.

PS That California Microwave system uses the MDS channels for uplink.
