This years Tour de Sol electric car race is running from Waterbury to Lake George NY from May 24 to May 28. This is an endurance type race and does not empasize speed. In fact several years ago when Solectria set their 373 mile record with the Sunrise they were actually penalized 2 "Tour miles" for speeding-- they actually did 375 miles. Here is a vastly truncated listing as of 4/12/99. -a Nissan Altra, with Sony Lion batts, apparently on static display, ie. not racing (wonder why?) -2 EPIC minivans with SAFT NiMh -Toyota Prius, with Pansonic NiMh -Solectria Force w/ Goldpeak NiMh -Ford Ranger with GM Ovonic NiMh -Ovonic Force w/ Ovonic NiMh (note: not GM/O) -Solectria NiCad Force, with Saft NiCad -RAV4 with Panasonic NiMh -Ovonic Prius w/ Ovonic NiMh (again, not GM/O) -Solectria Force w/ Saft NiCad and H2 fuel cells -viking (purpose built) w/ Saft NiCad -"Futura E", Motor Scooter w/ Gold Peak NiMh -Ovonic Electric Scooter, w/ Ovonic NiMh (again, not GM/O) This is the first time advanced batteries hae been out in such Force (pun intended). Shall be an interesting week to watch and to correlate with the stock price. ECD hit their high of 30 the week the Sunrise set its 375 mile record...
