An 8-CPU machine is getting up there in power and probably in criticality to a business. Your hardware, software, networking, and everything else has to work together and be serviced instantly by experts at that level. Who ya gonna call if you have a problem with a critical system? Ghostbusters? Red Hat?

At the enterprise level, Linux either puts you into the operating system business (and who's crazy enough to want that) or puts your mission-critical support into the hands of small-fry. I think it has a ways to go before it's any threat to Sun.

This tech-wreck, though hitting Sun harder than most, is hitting all the tech stocks. It's creating many bargains. People will wake up and realize that SUNW is going down right along with the stocks that have no earnings and no business plans except the word .com.

It is frustrating though that this happens to SUNW right after a great earnings report.
