SAFLINK Announces SAF2000 Multi-Biometric Enterprise Security Suite for Windows 10:06 a.m. Apr 19, 1999 Eastern
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 1999--COMDEX SPRING, BOOTH NO. C1225--SAFLINK Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of The National Registry Inc. (NRI) (NASDAQ: NRID), today announced its SAF2000(TM) Multi-Biometric Enterprise Security Suite. Organizations can now purchase a single product suite that includes SAFLINK's award winning network security products that dramatically increase the security level of the most widely deployed enterprise networking infrastructures in the world: Microsoft, Novell, and Computer Associates. SAF2000 represents SAFLINK's long-term vision for enterprise management of user credentials employing strong biometric-based identification and authentication (I&A) to replace vulnerable passwords.
SAF2000 is an architected suite of integrated, standards-based, packaged security products for Windows that can protect all points of user access to enterprise resources including LANs, WANs, dial-up networking, VPNs, Intranets, and Extranets. User credentials and data are securely managed using database and directory service protocols from Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Active Directory directory services (when released), Novell's Directory Services (NDS), and LDAP server providers. SAF2000 is delivered ready to use out of the box with built-in voice, finger and facial recognition biometric software algorithms that are qualified with a broad variety of Microsoft compatible audio/video and finger scanner peripherals from the leading technology providers in the business.
Scheduled for shipment in June 1999 at a suggested list price of $199.95, the base SAF2000 product suite includes a license for 10 users in the server database. Separately purchased user database expansion licenses start at $49.95 for each additional user and can be added at any time to accommodate the varied user populations found in enterprise networks. The above pricing allows user access from an unlimited number of workstations in the network.
"Our enterprise customers have diverse environments and have been asking for greater flexibility in the configuration and pricing of their security solutions" said Clinton C. Fuller, Chief Operating Officer of SAFLINK Corporation. "Bundling our award winning enterprise products into a single comprehensive security package that can be sold through traditional retail and distribution channels makes the decision to make your networks "SAF" even easier."
"SAFLINK has become one of the fastest-growing independent software vendors for Windows by providing more convenient and cost effective ways to protect the privacy and confidentiality of data under the care, custody, and control of the enterprise," said Tod Nielsen, vice president of Developer Marketing at Microsoft Corp. "SAF2000's biometric user authentication highlights the advanced capabilities of Windows-based technology and complements Microsoft Windows NT Server, Windows NT Workstation, Windows 98, and Internet Information Server." About SAF2000
The SAF2000 Multi-Biometric Enterprise Security Suite for Windows is an integrated grouping of packaged biometric I&A security applications and biometric technologies. The entire suite is supported on Windows NT servers and utilizes the most current and widely implemented API standard for the interoperability and interchangeability of biometric technologies. Built upon SAFLINK's Secure Authentication Facility (SAF) client/server architecture and management framework, SAF2000 is network centric and allows a variety of client configurations to securely communicate with a SAFserver(tm) for centralized administration of user credentials and the biometric I&A process. The SAF architecture can concurrently support heterogeneous enterprise networks employing all of SAF2000's award winning applications:
-- SAF/nt for Windows 95/98 and NT Clients -- SAF/iis for Microsoft Internet Information Server -- SAF/netware for Windows 95/98 and NT -- SAF/tng for Unicenter TNG and its Single Sign-on Option -- SAF/transactions - for custom biometric I & A within an application
These applications are implemented as a seamlessly integrated overpack, or add-on, to the networking infrastructure of Windows NT, Novell Netware, and Computer Associates TNG. All biometric related operations are performed through extensions to existing native networking and administrative functions, reducing implementation time and simplifying end-user support.
Included with the SAF2000 product suite are fingerprint, voice verification, and facial image recognition Biometric Service Provider (BSP) modules. These BSPs contain the capture, feature extraction and matching capabilities of leading biometric technology vendors. Additional BSP modules can be purchased separately and easily added to the SAFserver and one or more client workstations. Trust Model
SAF2000 implements an administrator-controlled trust model rather than the user-controlled trust models inherent in other biometric security products found in the market . An administrator-controlled trust model allows the systems administrator to define which users to trust, what credentials are required to gain trust, and when a trusted relationship is required. For example, administrators are able to allow all employees access to a main home page via an intranet, but provide only designated employees access to additional Web pages based on functional responsibility (i.e. sales people to enter orders and review customer activity, product managers to change confidential product descriptions and pricing, and financial staff to update reports). Other key benefits to implementing SAF2000's administrator-controlled trust model include:
-- Enhanced security is transparent to the user. -- Users are not required to perform any trust decisions to access enterprise resources. -- Single sign-on to multiple network resources can be achieved through one secure biometric logon.
Entrust Compatible
SAF/nt, SAF/netware, and SAF/tng can be configured to automatically log-in the user to any of the Entrust public key infrastructure suite of products. SAF2000's centralized management capability also synchronizes all user information between SAF2000, Entrust, and the underlying networking infrastructure (Windows NT, Novell NetWare, or Unicenter TNG). The Entrust Compatible feature integrates strong user I&A with an industry leading public-key infrastructure, ensuring that digital certificates used in e-mail and secure transactions over the Internet originated from their true owner.
