**OT** re rolling 401-K into a ROTH.

I looked into this same question last week and was told that one must first roll the 401-K into a standard IRA, and from there into a ROTH. Two steps, not one. Be sure you meet the eligibility requirements regarding the Roth conversion, as not everyone can do this.

Also, its not at all a slam-dunk that converting an IRA into a Roth is a good idea. Depends on how close you are to retirement age, and what your projected rate of return would be on the money that you would be paying in taxes at the time of the rollover.

Best to consult a tax advisor, I think.
