Tim- Thanks for your thoughtful comments on the edge. As Tim points out the thrust of your comments is that WS doesn't understand. You also said these changes "didn't materialize". I am less concerned with the "confusion" on WS than the "didn't materialize" comment. As you say below:

3Com's communication of this strategy has been nothing short of confusing. Its not smart
to articulate a strategy to WS that it does not understand. Clearly they did not and do
not understand an "edge" strategy. To many analyst, this just boils down to Modems
and NICs. EricB's oft-repeated statement; "we don't participate in the core" compounds
this confusion. The bottom line is that this "strategy" is both confusing and did not
materialize, therefore it can be said this it has failed.

Can you explain a little more why it didn't materialize? Is it still a work in process? Has the idea been rejected i.e. will the new improvements in fiber make the need for an intelligent edge less important? Your comments are helpful, but unfortunately it just makes me ask more questions. Any further thoughts?
