HP Collaborates With DiviCom And JVC To Provide Cost-Effective HDTV Solutions; MediaStream Servers 700 and 1600 to Feature Expanded HDTV Capability 04/19/1999 Business Wire (Copyright (c) 1999, Business Wire)
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 1999--Hewlett-Packard Company, the broadcast-industry leader in MPEG compression technology and on-air servers, today announces a collaborative effort with DiviCom, Inc. and Victor Company of Japan Ltd. (JVC) to deliver a high-definition television (HDTV) on-air server solution to broadcasters. The announcement was made here at the 1999 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference.
The combined HDTV server solution will feature HP MediaStream servers 700 and 1600, which are designed for both HDTV and standard-definition television (SDTV) broadcasting; DiviCom's MediaView MV400 HDTV encoder; and JVC's new DM-D4000 HDTV decoder.
HP's pioneering efforts in MPEG video compression and television-broadcast-server development have enabled this extended capability for the HP MediaStream servers. Customers can purchase MediaStream servers today for SDTV applications and upgrade those servers for HDTV next year. By combining HP's MediaStream servers 700 and 1600 with DiviCom's breakthrough HDTV MPEG encoder and JVC's HDTV MPEG decoder, the companies will provide cost-effective HDTV server solutions with configuration and upgrade flexibility. The HP MediaStream servers 700 and 1600 will be equipped with an input/output interface card capable of accepting MPEG streams from the DiviCom encoder and will provide MPEG streams to the JVC decoder in compliance with ATSC(1), DVB(2) and SMPTE(3) standards.
"HP has worked with DiviCom and its parent company, C - Cube , for many years. We are pleased to collaborate in helping broadcasters worldwide protect their broadcast-server investments," said Greg Hoberg, general manager of HP's Video Communications Division. "JVC's advances in HDTV MPEG decoding complement our system effectively. Our customers have asked for a roadmap to an HDTV future. We are delivering an HDTV superhighway."
"This collaboration is a reflection of DiviCom's open-solutions philosophy," said Tom Lookabaugh, president and chief executive officer of DiviCom. "We have worked hard to develop alliances with exemplary worldwide companies like HP and JVC to ensure that customers have access to the best solutions for their specific applications. The combination of HP's industry-leading on-air server solutions with DiviCom's HDTV encoding will benefit our customers."
"This cooperation reflects JVC's intention to expand its offerings of HDTV solutions," said Toyoharu Honda, general manager of JVC Professional Products Division. "JVC has participated in MPEG standardization from its inception. C - Cube , JVC and, most recently, DiviCom have worked closely together from day one. We are pleased to be a key player in this trend-setting alliance."
