Kenya,

For today only I have ceased my self-imposed exile from the CPQ thread, largely because when I head the news about the departure of the beloved 'bonehead twins' I couldn't resist checking in to say what you folks were saying about it.

Regarding your post about Comdex, I wouldn't give one single ounce of energy to questioning Compaq's decision not to participate in Comdex Spring. The fact is that most companies have bailed out of this show because it has lost its appeal. Back in the early days of the industry, when there were only a handful of shows, it made sense to have a Spring and Fall Comdex, but these days the Fall show is so big that it has essentially negated the need for the Spring one. That doesn't stop them from putting the show on because there's a sucker born every minute, so to speak.

As for IBM, they tend to go to every possible show simply because they have the money to do so, so why not? I'll agree with you that Compaq might benefit from showing itself to be more than a PC company, but this show is not the right show for that anyway. By the way, I live in the Chicago area, and have a free pass to get the show so I might actually head down there today. If so, I'll let you know what the attendance was like, but my guess is that it will be very lightly attended.

Regards,

JMaz
