Scott; If a stock you are short issues a dividend, then you are responsible for paying it. In the case of SHAL, you would be responsible for the dividend shares IF your short position was placed on or before the record date.

Now, in the case of SHAL, since it and its "SIPODs" are suspect, I am sure anyone short SHAL would be happy to be short the SCAMPODs too! But since the record date is in January, I don't believe this next dividend will cause any shorts any pain.
