Larry,

Re-read my post. I didn't say a thing about Dell. Whether GM or Ford goes up or down year after year has nothing to do with whether automobiles are a commodity (and if you believe that stock price defines a commodity product then, again, you have no clue). Commodity products are undifferentiated products. Cars are very differentiated products. If anything, I'd say that the automobile market is a saturated market where y-t-y growth is low. But that has nothing to do with product differentiation. If you want to argue that the PC market is a saturated market like the car market, then maybe there's a meaningful conversation there. But don't forget that even if a market is experiencing 0% growth, there can still be tremendous shifts in market share among the players. Market share can shift to the Japanese manufacturers for a while, then shift to U.S. manufacturers. Revenues and earnings can/will shift a lot. But I dare you to put a Yugo next to a Rolls and tell me that there's no difference in the products because they're a commodity.

Dave
