Pinnacle Systems Announces DVD1000 - A Combination Video Editing and DVD Authoring Solution
DVD1000 Captures Digital Video and Creates DVDs
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 1999--Pinnacle Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:PCLE - news) today announced DVD1000, one of the first products to feature video editing as well as DVD authoring in a single solution. DVD1000 features Pinnacle Systems recently announced DC1000, a complete dual-stream MPEG-2 video editing solution featuring technology from C-Cube Microsystems (NASDAQ:CUBE - news) as well as DVD authoring software from Minerva Systems Inc.
DVD1000 is a complete DVD creation system for corporate, event, and professional digital video artists who are looking for an affordable DVD authoring system to create corporate product demonstrations, training, entertainment, or educational DVDs.

DVD1000 comes bundled with Adobe's Premiere RT software for real time video and audio editing and Minerva's Impression DVD authoring software.

About DVD1000
DVD1000 is a combination digital video editing and DVD authoring solution, capable of real time processing of titles and transitions, providing more than 300 real time effects. DVD1000 provides hardware performance with an unparalleled software bundle including Adobe® Premiere® RT 5.1, Pinnacle Systems' TitleDeko titling software, Pixelan Video SpiceRack software effects and Sonic Foundry's ACID Music® software. Also included is Minerva's Impression DVD authoring software for professional authoring of DVDs with interactive menus, graphics and titles. The Impression DVD software can master to a DVD-R device or a DLT tape for duplication of the DVD. The resulting DVD can be played back on any personal computer equipped with a DVD player or any set top DVD player. DVD1000 can use analog or DV video and output the finished production to videotape, CD or DVD.
DVD1000 is based on Pinnacle Systems' DC1000 technology that takes advantage of storage efficient IPPP encoding of MPEG-2 video. Its unique design allows the user to edit MPEG-2 videos frame-by-frame even within compressed groups of pictures. DC1000 includes all the features of the DVD1000 except DVD authoring. DC1000 can author to either videotape of CD-R. DVD1000 can author to videotape, CD-R and DVD-R or DLT. Both DC1000 and DVD1000 include real time processing hardware that enables your final video production to be played with real-time effects - all on one editing system. The DC1000/DVD1000's MPEG-2 encoding system is based on the 4:2:2P@ML standard specifically designed for video editing. This provides frame-accurate editing based on Group of Pictures (''GOPs''), called ''Smart-GOPs''. Video is captured as industry-standard AVI files, stored as IPPP GOP format data, alongside PCM format audio. Although compatible with I-frame only MPEG-2 systems, DVD1000 and DC1000's more efficient IPPP format provides the same quality with much lower storage requirements.
The DVD1000 will be available in Summer '99 at an introductory retail price of $8,995 and is compatible with Windows NT based PCs. Pinnacle Systems also offers a DV (IEEE 1394) I/O module as an upgrade for the DVD1000 and DC1000. DC1000 customers can also upgrade to the features of the DVD1000.
