First ''Regulated'' Aussie Casino Opens

Wed Apr 14, 1999

This weekend, the world's first ''regulated'' online casino from Australia opened after two years of planning and a cost of about $5 million. The Lasseters Online site was awarded a license last Thursday by the Northern Territory Racing and Gaming Authority. ''It's the first online casino attached to a physical casino in the world,'' notes Lasseter's CEO, Peter Bridge. Cash games are currently offered to residents of the Northern Territory and foreigners, but Australians living outside the NT cannot play until relevant Internet legislation and national regulations are in place. The physical Lasseters Casino of Alice Springs hopes that its online partner will also achieve $20 million in revenue its first year. The Australian Financial Review has the details.

Anyone have any info on the Australian Internet legislation? Is it supposed to be passed soon?
